E pronto. Tal como as doze badaladas, ao 12º tema o Natal está aí. Fica esta canção de embalar cantada por Ringo Star que fecha o álbum branco dos Beatles, de 1968 e que foi composta por John Lennon para o seu filho Julian.
De arranjos (propositadamente) luxuriantes, combina bem esse lado hollywoodesco com a voz frágil de Ringo. Quanto a mim, é um belo tema.

Edição 3796 do "The Wall" (Esqueci-me de alguma?), mas desta feita em SACD
PINK FLOYD: The Wall 5.1 coming

SACD says James Guthrie

Floyd engineer
James Guthrie has confirmed that he will be mixing The
Wallalbum
in 5.1 Surround and that this mix will appear on SACD (Super Audio
CD), although there is no release date planned as yet.
In
an interview with Floyd fan-site Brain Damage, Guthrie acknowledges
what most Floyd fans have already grudgingly come to terms with, and
that is that EMI are unwilling to amend their Why Pink Floyd?
campaign release schedule, to allow for the time-consuming mix to be
carried out. This means that the forthcoming Immersion Box of The
Wall (due
Feb 2012) will not contain a surround mix of the album, unlike the
Immersion Boxes of The
Dark Side of the Moon and Wish
You Were Here.
Guthrie
also does not sit on the fence when it comes to his 5.1 surround mix
of Wish
You Were Here.
He is quoted as saying “The SACD is absolutely the best way to hear
the new 5.1 mix.” The SACD is available from Acoustic
Sounds and
did not form part of the recent Immersion Box.
Interestingly,
he also mentions that much of the extra content for the Immersion
sets “were chosen by some of the band managers and EMI”. He
contrasts this to the Echoes project
of 2001, in which all the tracks were selected by the band and
himself.
Despite
the lack of 5.1, The
Wall Immersion
Box still has two
whole discs of unreleased demos,
which probably means that many Pink Floyd fans will find it too hard
to resist.

Nine Days Wonder
Há muitos, muitos anos, um amigo comum, de seu nome Rui P., tinha uma papelaria chamada Pop Art. Para além dos artigos inerentes ao negócio, tinha também, a partir de certa altura, Lps. Numa prateleira, entre jornais e afins, lá estavam eles dentro de umas capinhas de plástico. Um dia o Rui disse-me que me tinha guardado um disco que tinha bom aspecto: tinha uns peixes desfocados na capa e dizia Nine Days Wonder. Na altura, este nome não me dizia absolutamente nada. Depois soube que a banda era alemã... Depois procurei mais discos, mas nada! Enfim, gastei 300 paus e fiquei todo contente...
Há uns dois anos, num armazém de carpetes, em Viana do Castelo, entre coisas que mais parecem saídas de uma casa isolada do mundo desde os anos 70, encontrei o mesmo disco à venda... por 1 euro! Claro que o comprei. Deve estar fechado na capinha de plástico desde 1971!
Será que a "label" destes tipos só vende em espaços exóticos?

Temas para um Natal Alternativo VII
Tom Waits - A Foreign Affair
Esta é a canção do viajante. Não a do turista, mas do que tem a alma na estrada. Do álbum "Foreign Affairs", tem uma versão majestosa pelos Manhattan Transfer (que parece não existir no youtube, há uma por um grupo-clone, mas fraquinho).
O que é que isto tem a ver com o Natal? O Natal é tempo de viagens que se completam. Mas não é por isso: os Manhattan Transfer transformam-na num manto branco vocal, num cântico de Natal.

Ennio Morricone - Extrasensorial (The Link)
Quanto mais conheço Morricone mais estupefacto fico com os seus poderes. o Maestro está lá em cima, com os grandes (os quais podemos discutir quais são...).
O seu sentido melódico é extremo; a sua criatividade nas orquestrações, imensa; a sua capacidade de produzir obra, avassaladora; Morricone criou um género próprio na música para filmes e nunca baixou a qualidade da sua produção, que se estende por seis décadas e mais de 500 filmes e trabalhos para televisão (!). Hoje com 83 anos continua a conduzir em concerto as suas obras (dia 20 de Dezembro podem ouvi-lo na Ucrânia!) e compôs bandas sonoras até 2008.
Ainda agora descobri mais esta pequena pérola, o tema do filme "Extrasensorial". Claro que ouvido com amplificação e colunas decentes tem outro impacto. Mas fica aqui, a motivar a descoberta.

Este tema de 74 dos King Crimson (que já tem recebido várias versões, devido à sua belíssima melodia - estou a lembrar-me de Criag Armstrong, por exemplo), é o tema do fim da festa: lareira apagada, copos derrubados, passas sobre a toalha, migalhas de bolo rei. Papeis de embrulho e fitas desfeitas. Antes de deitar, o olhar dirige-se para o Novo Ano: e, embora pacificado e atordoado pelo festim, uma unha de angústia insinua-se nas linhas das cordas por trás do piano e do trompete.
As Unthanks são um caso à parte; um grupo folk seguido pelos nomes sonantes do rock; tradição com um senso de contemporaneidade; uma voz apaixonante e melodias perfeitas.
Na memória de todos os que amam o tema original (e eu sou um deles), nada pode competir com a doçura da guitarra de Fripp introduzindo a melodia); e a forma como a voz de John Wetton arrasta as sílabas e depois se solta em grito em "bible black". E sobretudo o fenomenal solo de uma nota só que Fripp faz no fim da parte "canção" do tema, que inverte a atenção do ouvinte, como um bip de satélite contra um universo em evolução, e que evolui em crescendo torturado até algo parecido a uma explosão solar. Esta segunda parte do tema não foi nunca, que eu saiba, incluída nas versões, provavelmente porque estas se concentram na "canção" e a segunda parte do tema é fortemente disruptiva.
Excepcionalmente, coloco a versão original, no fim do post.
Mas o original não é um tema com espírito de Natal, e a versão das Unthanks é. Rachel and Becky são seguramente óptimas companhias.
O seu último álbum saiu há pouco e vai buscar repertório de Robert Wyatt e Antony Johnson. Impensável não ouvir! Do último álbum dos Divine Comedy, "Bang Goes The Knighthood", cada vez mais o alter ego de Neil Hannon, este excelente tema e excelente composição, "Down in the Street Below".
os sinos lembram a neve, o tema central o suave frisson das compras natalícias nas ruas movimentadas.
Música cinematográfica no seu melhor.
Foi considerado por uma revista (não me lembro qual), o melhor tema de 2010.
Neil Hannon é seguramente um dos maiores compositores ingleses deste século.
