The one-man orquestra and gifted composer Owen Pallet (aka Final Fantasy before he had to give up the name due to the copyright of the video game), did it again.
From concept albums to more open compositions, "In Conflict" is somehow different from his previous albums, but his inspired songwriting is good as ever. He is still one of the best musicians around, to our delight,

2014 in Songs #1- Ben Watt - "Forget"
I guess it doesn't make sense to do those lists of the best albums of the year. I'lI alwyas have lots of doubts of saying "these are the best ones", without listening with some intensity to a lot of albums. Nevertheless, and according to my last estimate, I listened more or less to 100 of them.
Early in the year, Ben Watts' album "Hendra" caught my attention. It is just his second solo album, after "North marine Drive he did with Rbert Wyatt, 17 years ago, and after Everything But the Girl split up.It is simple, heratfelt and true. It will endure, the kind of quality you don't find on people just looking for the spur of a (by-gone) moment.
I shared once "Hendra" here. Now it's time to "Forget".
Below you can also feel the fotage of "Levels", featuring David Gilmour.
Before I left there was a weekend when we walked
We barely saw a soul for two whole days
The Sussex downs after rainfall is as lovely as it gets
But really I should let
Let it all slide
How the light can fall in so many different ways
Some memories you deal with but some are tough
There are moments of joy that will go unmet
But really I should let
Let them all slide
But who am I fooling when I say I have no regrets
You can push things to the back of your mind
But you can never forget
I washed your hair in the darkness of the house
I saved a creature from the heat of the fire
And when you rose I saw your silhouette
But really I should let
Let that all slide
But who am I fooling when I say I have no regrets
You can push things to the back of your mind
But you can never forget
But who am I fooling when I say I wish we'd not met
You can push things to the back of your mind
You can push them there but still you will find
That you push them there to the back of your mind
But you can never forget
That you push them there to the back of your mind
But you can never forget

The Best Songs In the world #45 - Declan O'Rourke - "Galileo"
Because I am in Ireland and this guy is Irish, this may be a good definition of love. That reality so invisible.
It is a very simple song, and the message is incredibly plain to understand...
(I am not the one to draw conclusions...)
Galileo fell in love as a Galilean boy,
And he wondered what in heaven who invented such a joy.
But the question got the better of his scientific mind,
And to his blind and dying gaze,
He looked up high and often sighed,
And sometimes cried,
Who puts the rainbow in the sky?
Who lights the stars at night?
Who dreamt up someone so divine?
Someone like you and made them mine?
Love can make you ask some funny questions now and then.
But just remember the alternatives for I remember when
I was lonely and unhappy,
And my lips were cold as ice.
But you kissed me, and good heavens,
Now I'm here in paradise,
So if ever I'm not kissing you or looking in your eyes.
I won't be blind, and I won't cry.
I'll look up high and gladly sigh,
And thank the guy,
Who puts the rainbow in the sky?
Who lights the stars at night?
Who dreamt up someone so divine?
Someone like you and made them mine?
Someone like you and made them mine?

The Best Songs in the World #44 - The Moody Blues - "The Actor"
Back to the playlist of the Best Songs in the World, and back again to the 60's. This is from "In Search of a Lost Chord", 1968, the second album of the second life of Moody Blues.
Justin Hayward, singer and songwriter, and a lovely voice. A romantic tune for Sunday evening...
The curtain rises on the scene
With someone shouting to be free
The play unfolds before my eyes
There stands the actor who is me
The sleeping hours takes this part
Through traffic, telephones and fear
Put out your problems with the cat
Escape until a bell you hear
Our reasons are the same
But there's no-one we can blame
For there's nowhere we need go
And the only truth we know comes so easily
The sound I have heard in your hello
Oh, oh, darling, you're almost part of me
Oh, oh, darling, you're all I'll ever see
Ah, ah, ah
It's such a rainy afternoon
No point in going anywhere
The sounds just drift across my room
I wish this feeling I could share
It's such a rainy afternoon
She sits and gazes from her window
Her mind tries to recall his face
The feeling deep inside her grows
Our reasons are the same
But there's no-one we can blame
For there's nowhere we need go
And the only truth we know comes so easily
The sound I have heard in your hello
Oh, oh, darling, you're almost part of me
Oh, oh, darling, you're all I'll ever see
The sound I have heard in your hello

R.I.P. Jack Bruce
Este passou-me...
http://www.esotericrecordings.com/
Jack Bruce (14th May 1943 - 25th October 2014)
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Jack Bruce, one of the greatest musicians in the history of music. We had the extreme honour of working with him on his most recent album, 'Silver Rails', and also on the 'Can You Follow' boxed set some years ago. He was a fabulous man and his passing is a huge loss. Our sincere condolences go to his wife Margrit and all his family. We are numb. RIP Jack, you will always remain in our hearts and will always be a true legend.
The Best Songs in the World #43: Gentle Giant - Think of Me With Kindness
Masterpiece.
And the twist in the middle is just one of its charms.
Why am I using words, no more to say without you
Close the door, put out the lights and go.
Late in the night, in the night your shadow falls between us.
Nevermore, never know.
There, memories are sorrow,
When there's no tomorrow.
Sleep while the sweet sorrow wakes my daydream;
Sleep while you think of me with kindness,
please remember former days.
Sweet the song that once we sang,
the silent parting ways.
And you know, and you know,
And you know, long ago when first we made our promise -
Empty words, I wonder did you know -
The laugh that love could not forgive,
Is gone and tells no call to live,
And we who look in beauty's love;
Must now, through all, look back on before -
The tears that I first cried, no more;
Your love has come and gone, no more.
And we who look in beauty's love
Must now through all think back on before.
Sleep while the sweet sorrow wakes my daydream
Sleep while you think of me with kindness,
please remember former days.
And you know, and you know.
And you know, when we two parted in tears and silence
past the days, the parting ways.
Fare thee well,
fare thee well,
you that was once dear to me.
Think of me with kindness
Think of me.
And the twist in the middle is just one of its charms.

The Best Songs In the World #42 - The Raincoats - "Dancin' in My Head"
The best songs are the ones that stay in your head for years, and that you know by heart even when you don't listen to them very often. That is the case of this odd song from the UK group The Raincoats, a kind of intellectual daughters of The Slits, and that featured the Portuguese guitar player Ana Da Silva. It was one of first women's band formed in the post-punk wave. It's simple, weird and strong. Like the rest of "Odyshape", the album where this comes from.
The Best Songs In The World # 41 - Neil Young - "On The Beach"
This is a really a song that relates to the cover of the album. Despair, solitude, crude feelings, lost horizon. Wonderful, of course. The fifth Neil Young album, from 1974, one of his most underrated works, needs a lot more attention.
The world is turnin',
I hope it don't turn away,
The world is turnin',
I hope it don't turn away.
All my pictures are fallin'
from the wall where
I placed them yesterday.
The world is turnin',
I hope it don't turn away.
I need a crowd of people,
but I can't face them
day to day,
I need a crowd of people,
but I can't face them
day to day.
Though my problems
are meaningless,
that don't make them
go away.
I need a crowd of people,
but I can't face them
day to day.
I went to the radio interview,
but I ended up alone
at the microphone,
I went to the radio interview,
but I ended up alone
at the microphone.
Now I'm livin'
out here on the beach,
but those seagulls are
still out of reach.
I went to the radio interview,
but I ended up alone
at the microphone.
Get out of town,
think I'll get out of town,
Get out of town,
think I'll get out of town.
I head for the sticks
with my bus and friends,
I follow the road,
though I don't know
where it ends.
Get out of town, get out of town,
think I'll get out of town.
'Cause the world is turnin',
I don't want to
see it turn away.

Pink Floyd - The Endless River
Principalmente
A ele
do álbum “The Division Bell”.
próxima do último trabalho de Gilmour “On an Island” (um belíssimo
of these days”, ou ambiências saídas de “Ummagumma” .
02. It’s What We Do – recupera as ambiências de Wish You
Were Here, através do som caraterístico do teclado de Rick Wright, que está
presente em Shine on you Crazy Diamond e Welcome to the Machine.
11-13. Alons-y 1& 2– Recupera o baixo-helicóptero e o mesmo
timbre de guitarra de Run Like Hell, de “The Wall”; um dos temas mais
interessantes.
Knopfler de sobre uma bateria que lembra “Set the Controls for the Heart of the
Sun”.
Bell”. O tema poderia estar nesse disco,
não seria certamente um dos mais memoráveis. E, sim termina com um solo dourado
de Gilmour.
That’s it boys. Recuperando aqui as palavras do grande poeta
Man” (e cito de memória):
“So the
great affair is over / and whoever would have guessed / it would leave us all
so vacant / and so deeply unimpressed”.

Air: Open Air Suit

The Flaming Lips: Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds

Tesouros do Baú : Candy - OST
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062776/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_2
A very lengthy opening scene zooms through the galaxy, narrowing in on Earth while showering the planets with psychedelic colors and flaring overexposure. The camera moves over the ocean, across the beach, and finally through the desert to land on a young blonde woman emerging from beneath a white sheet. Apparently it’s all a dream, as naïve and blindly helpful Candy Christian (Ewa Aulin with a noticeable Swedish accent and awkwardness toward acting) awakes in class, being lectured by her father, the teacher. Later, she watches a presentation by acclaimed poet MacPhisto, a drunken actor, who tries to rape her in his limousine. When he’s too inebriated to do anything but fall on the floor, Candy winds up having sex with her father’s landscaper.
She’s sent to New York for her behavior, accompanied by her father, uncle T.M. Christian and his wife Livia (Elsa Martinelli), but en route she’s attacked by the gardener’s sisters (named Lolita, Conchita, and Marquita, wielding brass knuckles, a switchblade and flail) and her father is knocked into a coma. They manage to board a military plane commanded by Brigadier General Smight (Walter Matthau), who trades a blood transfusion for a patriotic stripshow from Candy, which results in the deployment of the army man’s troops and a shaky landing by T.M.’s wife. From there, a pink scrubs-suited brain surgeon is called upon to operate, hilariously splattering blood all over his face as he digs into Candy’s unconscious father with scalpels and bone saws in front of a crowd of onlookers in an amphitheater at the center of a hospital shaped like a brain, where mental patients are dressed identically to the staff. Her father’s brain is eventually connected to an electrical outlet. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg as Candy continues on her bizarre odyssey of strange people and sexual encounters to reach an ethereal void.

The Best Songs In The World #40 - Led Zeppelin - "The Rain Song"
This album - "Houses of the Holy", 1973 - was just remastered, and the new mix really brought out the subleteties of the song. This is a ballad, something not so usual in Led Zeppellin, and looks like the inspiration came from George Harrison and "Something". Robert Plant thinks this is one his best vocals.
This is the springtime of my loving
The second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing
So little warmth I've felt before
It isn't hard to feel me glowing
I watched the fire that grew so low
It is the summer of my smiles
Flee from me keepers of the gloom
Speak to me only with your eyes
It is to you, I give this tune
Ain't so hard to recognize
These things are clear to all from time to time
Talk, talk, talk, talk
I've felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go
I cursed the gloom that set upon us, upon us, upon us
But I know that I love you so
Oh, but I know that I love you so
These are the seasons of emotion
And like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion
I see the torch we all must hold
This is the mystery of the quotient
Upon us all, a little rain must fal
This is the springtime of my loving
The second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing
So little warmth I've felt before
It isn't hard to feel me glowing
I watched the fire that grew so low
