As promised on the first edition of these series "Great Gigs in the Cloud", published on last year's December (Boy,amazing how fast time flies by!), I will continue sharing with you special treats made available to us all, and hopefully live long beyond our short terminal existence on this planet with the advent of clouding, thanks to the 21st century computing technology! As a side note, are we reaching kurzweil's singularity thesis faster than anyone thought? I'll come back to this later on... Well as I've been babbling up until now about the present and the future, let's travel back in time and enjoy this little marvel, only a 29 minutes piece, recorded back in 74 live in Paris for the french television program "Live Melody", that is an absolute bliss. Doesn't Fripp freak you out when he looks back at you with those creepy eyes? Does he hate the camera starring at him or the "virtual" audience, i.e., the inexistence of it? :)

For GAR2014 I'd like to take this opportunity to challenge you, as I have no facebook account, to create an online petition on Gouveia Art Rock's page on facebook, requiring the presence of King Crimson on next year's edition! Only then will GAR reach its ultimate status quo! As some close friends of mine say when they mean they are being serious, there is no question about it, PERIOD, !PIM! Well, I'm not being fair at all... To be honest, I really have to congratulate GAR's organization for the marvelous work they have done over the years organizing and bringing such great names to our country. Kudos for you all! But please try bringing KC to this special event! And, I think I can speak for the most part of the attendees, we don't even postulate the presence on any specific iteration / formation of KC... Should at least the following be present, I would be more than satisfied:
Robert Fripp, Peter Sinfield, Greg Lake, Michael Giles, Ian McDonald, Mel Collins, Gordon Haskell, Andy McCulloch, Bill Bruford, John Wetton, David Cross, Jamie Muir, Trey Gunn, Peter Giles, Keith Tippett, Mark Charig, Robin Miller, Nick Evans, Jon Anderson, Rick Kemp, Harry Miller, Paulina Lucas, Hunter MacDonald, Richard Palmer-James, Eddie Jobson, Ok, ok... Here's my proposal. Let's do a special GAR Edition made of no more than several KC lineups :)
No, I did not forgot to mention Boz Burrell nor Ian Wallace. I simply didn't mentioned them as they've unfortunately already passed away...
Oh, by the way... Why not also challenge Ian McDonald & Micheal Giles on doing a gig for us in GAR?
Wouldn't that be a treat!
Unfortunately, I don't believe Giles would still be up for the challenge... the man is already in is 21st century 70's!

Sobre os Moody Blues já se escreveu quase de tudo o que de mau havia para escrever. Portanto, são um caso perdido. Ótimo! Adoro casos perdidos. Esta é das simples e boas (e o vídeo é para esquecer).
Talvez a mensagem se aplique também a Ray Manzarek, desaparecido hoje: Burn slowly the candle of life.
Continuando nas versões, eis aqui o comandante canadiano Chris Hadfield a revisitar o famosíssimo tema de David Bowie do seu álbum de 1969 abordo de Estação Espacial Internacional. The real thing, portanto.
A propósito de Bowie, o Victoria and Albert Museum têm uma exposição temporária (até 11 de Agosto) dedicada a Bowie - a vida, a musica, as colaborações, as influencias, a convergências das várias artes na sua arte. Já vi a exposição, achei-a pouco profunda, mais visual que musical, mas é uma oportunidade única para conhecer melhor aquele que dizem ser o artista mais influente do século passado (provavelmente, estão a referir-se apenas à cultura pop...). E não é de todo irrelevante que uma instituição de pergaminhos tão conservadores como o V&A tenha decidido tornar Bowie um artefacto museológico, nem que seja temporariamente...
Num registo diferente, acaba de sair o novo álbum do norueguês Ketil Bjornstad (ECM 2300), que promete ser mais uma belíssima obra. Dedicado ao cinema de Antonioni, que KB refere ser uma das suas maiores influencias:

same time that I discovered what jazz could be, after listening to Miles Davis’
In A Silent Way, I also saw the films by Godard, Bresson and Antonioni. Perhaps
it was the slow, rhythmic authority in the films by Michelangelo Antonioni that
made me think of music... As long as visual art creates music in our minds, and
music creates pictures and visual expressions with the same intensity, the two
are deeply and profoundly interdependent”.
KB é também escritor e poeta; e Antonioni escreveu também (li dele, há muitos anos, "O perigoso fio das coisas", belíssimo livro feito de imagens). Tenho para mim que esta ligação entre as diversas artes é algo de muito europeu. O poeta cultiva uma certa luz, que passa para um filme, que inspira um romance, o qual sugere uma peça de música... Há, assim, contínuo de ideias que é muito europeia - a ideia da arte em si mesma, que não conhece barreiras nas disciplinas e que se prolonga em métodos heteredoxos com uma mesma continuidade semântica.
Quanto a Bjornstad, é um excelentíssimo músico que não necessita de grandes apresentações. O seu trabalho não se confina ao jazz - alías, há pouco de negro americano na sua música, que está mais próxima do clássico. Os seus trabalhos com o guitarrista Terje Rypdal são excecionais (ouça-se, por exemplo, "The Sea" ou o arrepiante "Life in Leipzig").
Avalaindo o que está disponivel no Youtube do novo álbum, temos mais um grande trabalho. Este tema é uma celebração, musica da alegria - bem diferente de algumas paragens mais sombrias (o já mencionado "The Sea", por exemplo).

Prog Rock Festival !" (e deve saber do que fala!), tem uma extensa cobertura.
Esta é uma notícia triste. Morreu Storm Thogerson, criador de algumas das mais icónicas capas de discos de toda a música rock, através do seu estúdio Hipgnosis, para os Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Nice, Peter Gabriel, 10cc, Muse...
