Acabadinho de chegar da Amazon - o único disco dos Fuzzy Duck, e raridade em vinil da Vertigo (cerca de 500€ em segunda mão...), em reediçao em CD da Esoteric Recordings.

Wiki knowledge: Fuzzy Duck was an English progressive rock group from London, formed in 1970. Their self-titled studio album Fuzzy Duck was released in 1971. It featured Mick Hawksworth of Five Day Week Straw People and Andromeda, as well as Crazy World of Arthur Brown keyboardist Roy Sharland and drummer Paul Francis of Tucky Buzzard (and later of Tranquility).[1] The band was not named after the drinking game, but rather was coined by the album art designer, Jonathon Coudrille.[2] The group disbanded soon after the release of their full-length, but enduring interest in the band led to reissues on CD by Akarma Records and Repertoire Records.[3]

As primeiras impressões: é heavy prog, o primeiro tema é o mais forte e o mais interessante do disco. Também se destaca o tema 7, In Our time.É uma obra para completistas, mas tem os seus momentos interessantes, com bons momentos movidos a Hammond e guitarradas competentes. Comparações: Uriah heep, Deep Purple,
Vanilla Fudge.

Novo de Bill Calahan em Setembro

Setembro (lamento dizer-vos, mas vem mesmo aí!), anuncia-se já mais simpático. Bill Calahan, um dos nomes atuais a acompanhar com maior atenção, publica a 17 o sucessor so ótimo Apocalypse e prepara-se para uma digressão (Já esteve na Feira aí há uns quatro anos). Esperemos que inclua Portugal! Entretanto aqui um pequeno concerto em ambiente íntimo:

A minha alma está parva como é que estes tipos me escaparam completamente durante estes anos que levo de vida!

Confirma-se que os anos 1967-1975 produziram uma tal quantidade de boa música que só hoje temos a distância necessária e o crivo crítico para entender o fenómeno.

Estes nova-iorquinos de Brooklyn que se mudaram para a Alemanha têm uma fusão rock jazz de muito bom gosto, muito bem tocada, um ritmo contagiante (excelente baterista!), excursões instrumentais de alto nível, incluindo solos de saxofone, composições interessantes. E ainda tocam uma versão de Soft Parade, dos The Doors.

Sad Season para a boa música: Morreu George Duke

Morreu na segunda-feira por causa do raio da leucemia...

Relembro o LP "I love the blues, she heard my cry", que não é fácil de encontrar...

O George Duke é, para mim, um grande músico, apesar de ter composto alguns dos temas mais inaudíveis de sempre (insuportáveis mesmo).
Os tempos que passou com o Zappa fizeram-lhe bem e o próprio trabalho do Zappa não ficou imune a essa convivência (pe. New York, Roxy and Elsewhere, só para citar dois)...

Enfim, mais um que se foi.

Goldfrapp: Tales of Us em Setembro

O novo de Goldfrapp sai no início de Setembro, mas já está disponível nos "sítios do costume" na net.

aquilo que vos posso dizer é que o melhor álbum deles (dela) desde "Felt Mountain", o que é dizer muito, e que se assemelha a ele pelo ambiente intimista e confessional - o que é dizer ainda mais.

Parece que Allison Goldfrapp se cansou de ser sexy (parafraseando o grupo brasileiro), e voltou a ser muito sexy.

I've had this album laying around the house for quite a few months now (if not years! I really don't remember when did this guy make it through my record collection's check-in desk...) but , who knows why, never really paid much attention to it...

Something about the cover that never compelled me to press the play button on the CD Player.

Ok, so I confess being a sucker for artwork. I've got a certain tendency to be compelled , or not, to listen to a new artist only by judging its cover...

Yes, I'm one of those rare folks that still thinks artwork is an important part of an album... Especially on a 12"LP Cover

Not that it really implies anything but...

I find it to be one of the downsides / turnoffs of digitally distributed music over the net. You miss that joy of picking up your 'swissy', tear the plastic or carton apart, and ravish your newly acquired record....

Or even worst, missing on spending half a morning on a record shop searching for new music!

And yes, there is something special about the smell of old vinyl records... Anyway...

Woopsie! Should've looked into this record sooner!

Sometimes is voice reminds me of Roger Waters voice... Not that there's any resemblance to Waters music...

Hoje vou pôr uma cruz em : Gram Parsons

Sou um espírito aberto, sem preconceitos musicais, pelo que tenho muito poucas embirrações. Basicamente, detesto má música, sem que até hoje tenha conseguido muito bem definir qual é. Porém, há um género que nunca gostei: o country. A música de chapéu de cowboy nunca me convenceu; e não é porque seja má música. Simplesmente, embirro com ela.

Decidi-me, ainda assim, fazer um esforço e dedicar alguma atenção a uma das supostas oitavas maravilhas do género: Gram Parsons, génio precoce e desaparecido muito novo (em 1973, com 27 anos), que influenciou hordas de gente com aquelas gravatas ridículas e botas bicudas. O seu álbum "Grievous Angel" merece elogios rasgados, a sempre insuspeita Uncut coloca-o nos píncaros. Eu tenho a dizer que: não presta. É chato. É country.

Ainda para mais: contém o hino ao aborrecimento "Love Hurts".

E pronto. De vez em quando sabe bem pôr uma cruz em cima de algo e passar adiante.
