This next series of posts will be looking to albums released in 1976, whenever possible in the same day they were released in it's original country. In many cases it is not possible to determine the exact day, so I'll just fill up some days with random releases from that year...
The series will be centered on "popular music", whatever that means; mainly centered on rock and pop, we'll also be looking at the sides (other countries, not always UK - US...), folk music, jazz, experimental, etc, and ignoring some of the awful stuff that shouldn't have been ever released (did I mention Kiss and Abba?).
Music reflects its time, and 1976 was an year of transition. The Golden Era of Psych and Prog ended in 1975 - and it was time to move on. The birth of punk, the consolidation of reggae into the mainstream, the commercial success of disco coexisted with after-peak of prog rock. Music was going in different directions: leaving the experimentation of previous years, yeas, but also the excess and pomp of rock stars turned worldwide idols.
So, come in for the ride, and listen as you go. Writing about music is the boring part - listening to it is where the fun is. Leave the bore to me.
An upfront warning: I'll be using AI as an assistant for content. This is just non-sense, is like people telling today you that they used google to search for information, but some people are sensitive to the topic. Give them time.
